A Smart Squad was introduced in one hotel to save agency costs. Instead of bringing in agency staff, hotel colleagues, known as the Smart Squad, were multi-skilled and allocated to other departments when they had time to spare. This saved 1,200 agency hours over three months, with the additional benefit of personal development for the colleagues involved.
